About Easter
Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus and is the oldest feast in the Christian year. It has no fixed date. Since the fourth century, churches have tied it to the first full moon of spring, and Western churches today work it out from fixed tables of the moon's phases rather than from the actual sky. The result can land anywhere between March 22 and April 25.
Easter closes Holy Week, which begins on Palm Sunday. Good Friday, two days earlier, marks the crucifixion. Outside church, the holiday means egg hunts, chocolate bunnies, spring outfits, and a big family lunch. Passover is a separate Jewish festival with its own calendar; it often falls close to Easter because both follow the spring moon.

Orthodox Easter
Eastern Orthodox churches compute Easter, or Pascha, with the older Julian calendar. Their date matches the Western one in some years and comes one, four, or five weeks later in others. The next Orthodox Easter is on Sunday, May 2, 2027.
