Military Time Converter
This military time converter translates between standard 12-hour time (with AM/PM) and military time — the 24-hour clock used by the US Armed Forces, hospitals, aviation, and emergency services. Enter a value in either field; the other side updates instantly. The full military time chart below shows every hour at a glance, with the current hour highlighted.
Military Time Chart
The chart is the fastest way to read a military time you've come across in a document, schedule, or itinerary. For example, 0000 is midnight (12:00 AM), 1200 is noon (12:00 PM), and 1700 is 5:00 PM. After 12:00 PM, military hours are simply standard PM hours plus 12 — that's the only rule you need to remember.
Army Time and the 24-Hour Clock
"Military time," "army time," and the "24 hour clock" all refer to the same thing — a single continuous numbering of hours from 0 to 23, with no AM/PM. It eliminates ambiguity about which 7:00 someone means and is the international standard outside the US. The military convention writes the time as four digits with no colon (1730), while the everyday 24-hour format uses a colon (17:30) — both are shown in the chart.
Convert Military Time to Standard
To convert military time to standard: if the hour is 0, it's 12:XX AM; if 1–11, it's the same number AM; if 12, it's 12:XX PM; if 13–23, subtract 12 to get the PM hour. The converter does this automatically — enter any military time like 1700, 17:00, or just 17 and you'll see the standard 12-hour equivalent.
